Licensing is big business. Similar studies conducted in the United Kingdom and Germany showed royalty revenues in 2002 of $232 million and $198 million, respectively, while a licensing show in late 2003 in Tokyo drew 7,000 visitors and featured exhibitors from all over the world. The International Licensing Industry Merchandisers’ Association lists 240 licensing agents and 138 licensing consultants among its nearly 1,000 members worldwide and offers a certification program in licensing studies.
